Wild and Scenic Film Fest movies available to rent [written 2006]

The biggest complaint was that there were so many good films, you couldn't get to see all the ones you wanted to see. Film festival director, Kathy Dotson likes this as a lead statement to an article written after January's Wild and Scenic Environmental Film Festival. She says you can still manage to see dozens of the films that showed at four venues in downtown Nevada City on a Friday evening and all day Saturday. They are available for rent.

The SYRCL office (South Yuba River Citizens League) is a special kind of film rental store. They rent films you won't find elsewhere, and it's a chance to kick up your awareness and inspiration a notch. What interests you? Saving forests? Saving rivers? Saving the California coast? Saving wild horses? Promoting organic food? Promoting opportunities for small, committed farmers? Respecting Native American rights and wisdom? Some of the films are just plain exciting or fun. Most of the dozens of films from the festival are available for rent plus some of the films from last year's festival.

For $3.50, a SYRCL member can rent a DVD for a week. For nonmembers, the charge is $5. The fourth annual film festival was pretty much filled to capacity for its biggest fundraising event of the year. The spirit of the festival and the fundraising continue with the opportunity to pop into the SYRCL office at 216 Main St. in Nevada City (several doors up from Bank of America), from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Please don't call asking about rentals. They're not really staffed or set up like a rental store, but please do come in with a credit card and rent as many as three at a time. Look at what's available at http://wildandscenicfilmfestival.org. Click "About WSEFF" at the top of the Web site. Then click "SYRCL Film Library."
