Archive of Banner Headlines

Asterisk (*) indicates a travel or other special edition of The CampChuck Reviewer.

From a layout perspective, the Web version of The CampChuck Reviewer is different from the paper version. The contents are almost exactly the same. Indeed the content length is dictated by the 8 page paper format.

In the paper version there is a perennial tradition to include a wholly implausible banner headline that cross references a non-existent page 9 of the 8 page Oscar newsletter (or page 5 when it's 4 pages). Historically the headline frequently refers to Meryl Streep. On the Web, this would be construed as a broken link and both the joke and Webmaster's credibility would be lost. So, in the Web version, I simply declare the joke, for instance, "Meryl Advises Hillary, Elizabeth, and Bernie," Ha, ha.

Note: The first edition of The CampChuck Reviewer (called "The Unsolicited Movie Newsletter" through 1985) appeared in 1980. The first banner headline in 1984 actually pointed to an article in the newsletter. The page 9 joke began in the 1985 edition and became a regular feature of the newsletter in 1987.
